I come from very humble beginnings… I am one of five children. My father was an Army Veteran and my Mother a house wife. I knew at a young age we didn’t have much money, only enough for the basics necessities. I graduated high school at sixteen. Determined for a better life, I began college with nothing but hope, summer jobs, and student loans to pay for my education. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and my graduate degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. I immediately moved to Houston, TX and took a job as a fashion designer.
Here is where my Mary Kay journey first began. A friend invited me to a skincare class. I was impressed with the product and business opportunity. It would allow me to put my priorities in order ~Faith, Family, and then Career! It could also supplement my income, pay off debt, and take advantage of some tax advantages. I signed up immediately! Just 3 months after signing my agreement, I earned the use of my first car. Then 3 months after that I became a Sales Director- all while still working my full time job. What happened next would change my life forever. The company that I worked for full time went bankrupt and my plan B Mary Kay became my Plan A.
I have had many exciting achievements in Mary Kay career. The pinnacle of my career came in January 2008 when I debuted as a National Sales Director! Then in December 2018, I debuted my first offspring National Sales Director Patrice Moore Smith! Then again, in March of 2021 I debuted my second offspring National Sales Director Carmen Jones! Then just nine months later, I watched as National Carmen Jones became a Senior National Sales Director when she debuted her first offspring National Sales Director Tehrie Brinkley Ned! Empowering and changing other women’s lives has been priceless!!!
Finally what has kept me most excited about building a successful Mary Kay business is my family. I was able to put my son through college with cash (no student loans). My grandchildren’s college funds are already paid for in advance. I was also able to care for my mother for sixteen years. Because I said yes to this opportunity, I have been able to secure my family’s future ~ A Legacy!!!
